This pattern is complicated and not for the faint of heart! Designed after the stained glass window panes in European cathedrals, this piece holds a special place in our hearts and will make any stitcher sweat. Just like anything else though, one stitch at a time and you'll be done lickity split. This pattern won't be for everyone as it is very dense, but for those who take on the challenge it will be fun and keep you on your toes!
We encourage stitchers who purchase this pattern to use kreinik and blending filament in the panes of glass to give it some spice and make it their own. Although charted in black, its always nice to see different colours incorporated on a chart like this!
Blackwork is a historical form of counted embroidery work that was typically used to adorn the cuffs and collars of fine clothing. True blackwork was completely reversible so even if the cuff was flipped inside out, it would look the same. Clothing made with details this fine was only available to Royalty and the elite echelons of society back in the day. This series of patterns uses backstitch and are not designed to be truly reversible – just fun, easy (but intricate) stitching! Enjoy!
