Maria Friston, 1802, is a fine and detailed Norfolk sampler reproduction. The pattern includes many classic features of Norfolk samplers, including octagons and stags. Maria also included some embroidery, in the plants at the bottom of the pattern.
Maria completed her sampler in 1802. It’s a very pretty and carefully executed piece of needlework. I imagine she would have been probably around 10 years old or older to be able to produce work of this standard and would have come from a family who had the means to enable her to stitch a high-quality sampler.
Maria's pattern is in full colour amd includes some speciality stitches, such as quarter stitchers (one over one), eyelets, freehand embroidery and buttonhole eyelets, all of which are explained in full. It is charted for DMC and not suitable for aida.
